College Library
Rules Regarding Functioning of the Library:
- (a) The College Library is open from 10.00a.m. to 5.00p.m. on all working days of the College.
(b) The Library remains closed on Sundays and other authorised holidays.
(c) The Principal reserves the right to alter the working hours at his discretion.
(d) The last and first hours of every working day is set apart for office work of the Library.
(e) Notice shall be issued from time to time by the Principal or Professor-in-charge of the Library regarding the hours of issue and return of books to all categories or borrowers. - No books should be taken out of the Library without the knowledge of the Librarian and until it has been properly entered in the Loan Register and the entry attested by the borrower.
- Each borrower must examine the condition of the book before leaving the issue counter. In case mutilations are discovered later the presumption of guilt will be against the borrower and would make him liable to such penalties as may be imposed by the Principal.
- The Books should be returned within the period allowed to a borrower which is fifteen days from the date of issue for the students and one month from the date of issue for others.
- In case of students, does not return the Library books within the time allowed a fine of 25 paise per book per day will be charged till the return of such books.
- The following is a list showing the maximum number of books to be issued to various categories of borrowers.
(a) Members of the Teaching Staff - 25 Nos.
(b) Members of the Governing Body - 5 Nos.
(c) Ministerial Staff - 5 Nos.
(d) Class - IV Employees - 2 Nos.
(e) Students : +3Arts/Science (Hons.) - 2 Nos.
(f) Students : +3 Arts/Science(Pass) - 1 Nos.
(g) Students : +2 Arts/Science/Com. - 1 Nos. - All books belonging to the Library under the possession of a borrowers should be returned to the Library before the College closes for summer vacation on or/before the date notified for the purpose.
- Whoever has a Library book in his possession should return it to the Library whenever he receives a requisition for the book from the Librarian.
- No marginal or other note or marking shall be made in the Library books nor shall any picture, map, page be removed or torn or otherwise disfigured.
- Any book lost or damaged or defaced by a borrower must be replaced by him. If the book is of a set or series and the volume cannot be obtained singly, the whole set or series must be replaced by the borrowers. Should the book be rare or irreplaceable the borrower must pay triple the cost of the book or an amount fixed by the Principal.
- The Librarian will report to the Principal about the person responsible for improper use of the Library books.
- Although ordinarily there will be no restriction on the use of the Library books, the Principal has the right to stop the issue of certain books to all or some intending borrowers.
- Maps, University Calendar, University questions, current issue of periodicals, magazines, courses of studies and rare books shall not be issued for home use without the special permission of the Principal.
- All those, who happen to be inside the Library or its neighbourhood are expected to observe strict silence.The Librarian is authorised to see that silence is strictly observed and to report any wilful breach of the same.
- Spitting, smoking, sleeping inside the library and putting one’s legs on the Library furniture are strictly forbidden.
- Cases of incivility inside the Library should at once be reported to the Principal.
- Non other than the members of the teaching and ministerial staff may have direct access to the Library shelves.
- The books issued to various Seminars will be kept under the direct supervision of the Head of the Department or person nominated by him. The Secretary of the Seminar as well as the borrower will be held responsible for any loss or damage of the book.
- Books once borrowed cannot be ordinarily transferred to others without physical verification by the Librarian.
- A person who takes books from the Library is supposed to have read the library rules and is presumed to have agreed to abide by the Library rules. Ignorance of the Library rules will not be an excuse for breach of any rule.
Special Rules for Students :
In addition to the above rules the following rules of the Library are to be observed.
- Each student will be provided with Library Card for records of borrowing and return of books.
- No book will be issued to a student without the presentation of the Library Card. He/she also has to present this card while returning the book.
- If a student loses his/her Library card, a duplicate card will be issued to him/her on an application and payment of a fine of Rs. 5/- only.
- The students will return the Library Card along with all the books borrowed while taking Library clearance required for taking C.L.C. or T.C. from the College.
- For use in the reading room, one book at a time may be issued to a student on production of his College Identity Card. A student has to return book taken against the Identity Card before leaving the reading room otherwise a fine of Rs 1/- per day will be charged.
- No student is allowed to go beyond the counter in the Library.
- A book once issued to a student may be re-issued to him or her only when nobody else wants to take that book. For re-issue the book should be placed before the Librarian for necessary entries in the Register.
- All students, sent up for the University Examination / CHSE Examination must return the Library Books failing which they will not be allowed to fill up the forms for University/ CHSE Examination.
- Ordinarily no student will be allowed to keep Library books with them after filling up the forms for University / CHSE Examination. However, a student can be specially permitted by the Principal at his discretion to keep the Library book till the issue of his/her admit card to sit for the examination.
- No Student against whom any over due or other charges are outstanding will be allowed to borrow from the Library until the Library dues are cleared.
- No book will be issued to a student until a book borrowed earlier is returned.
Note : A person even if otherwise qualified for admission into the Library, shall not be admitted into the Library premises if he/ she is not of sound mind or is not clean in person or dress.
