N.S.S.

The National Service Scheme was introduced in the college as an extension activity with the objective of developing students’ personality through community service. The very purpose is to engage the students in creative and constructive social works, and to gain new experience in life from social realities. This helps them to understand the life in true spirit and also to enrich their personalities. The organizational structure of the NSS to implement the avowed objective consists of two gents’ units and one ladies unit operating under the guidance and supervision of NSS bureau, Utkal University.

Composition for the Session 2019-20:
The three programme officers of NSS at present are:

  1. Mr. Himanshu Sekhar Nayak, Lecturer in Pol. Science - PO, Gents Unit I

  2. Dr. Trilochan Pradhan, Lecturer in Odia - PO, Gents Unit II

  3. Mrs. Jtotsna Prusty, Lect. (Gr-A) in Economics - PO, Ladies Unit

Activities:

  • The NSS Advisory Committee sits at the beginning of the session to prepare the programmes to be undertaken during the session and to evaluate the work of the units at the end of the session.
  • The recruitment of student volunteers generally takes place after admission of the students to different streams and the process is completed before 15th of September in every academic session.
  • The newly recruited volunteers (each unit with 50 volunteers) are imparted orientation training by the programme officers and resource persons having social service background.
  • The overall activities of different units are undertaken through ‘normal activities’ as regular camping programmes. A ten days’ camp as a special programme is also carried out with various types of activities through concerted efforts. All these programmes are monitored by the proramme officers of the concerned units.
  • So far as ‘Normal Activities’ are concerned, the units undertake various community development works and collaborate in important national programmes such as Pulse Polio immunization camps, AIDs awareness camp, and anti-drug, anti-dowry, traffic and environment awareness drives.
  • Cycle rallies are organized to create awareness among the local people on various social-economic and environmental problems of the community. Interaction with the community people makes a student learn many practical aspects of life which are lacking in formal education.

In general, the following activities are given priority by the NSS.

a. Cleanliness drives in the communities in and around the campus and in the nearby villages.
